My friend Alex Naser-Hall makes good mixes - really good mixes actually - and is a regular guest curator on Invisible Children’s Monday Mini Mixtape.
Not only are we friends, we also work together…kind of. He lives in New York, me in DC, but we both do the same thing as City Coordinators in our respective cities.
Anyway, long story short, he just started a new blog for all the happenings of IC in NYC, which you should check out & follow; it’s like a lifestyle blog, but with purpose & trust me - you won’t be disappointed.
Today’s track is off his latest mix and has been playing on repeat in my iTunes for sometime now.
And why not? it’s Friday! And Happiness belongs me! (and you too!)
my friend Katy S sent this to me and it strangely enough has a considerable amount of parallels to my Invisible Children way of life
“…we sleep on couches//we got no money, but we got heart//i want everyone…”

this track and concert deserve your undivided attention (the latter, especially if you live in SD)

Today marks the beginning of mapping out our cities

At This Vending Machine, Swapping is the New Buying
Enter the Swap-O-Matic, a fresh New York City-based vending machine project that wants to “shift culture away from an emphasis on unconscious consumption” by encouraging people to donate and receive used items for free.
In an office of primarily full time volunteers, maybe this should become a requirement here.
we’ve been putting in early mornings this week, trying to book our tour in anticipation of launch…. NEXT WEEK, and I mean “out the door at 6:15am” early mornings.
And, sometimes this is true reflection of how a lot of us are feeling in the office.
- Thanks to Miss Maggie Leahy for this very laugh-able gem~

People come to Invisible Children for a wide variety of different reasons: to learn, to grow, to.end.this.war and without really knowing it, this transformative power takes over and starts to change us in the most incredible of ways, but on top of that, is that we are also helping save lives of people in Central Africa who are just unable to do so themselves. This is something bigger than ourselves, than perhaps even we fully understand, and whether intentional or not, through our daily actions, we will all be changed.
This song is on repeat today, for the beat as well as the truth behind the words.
Musical Monday friends - enjoy :)
